Tau Epsilon Sigma is blazing trails in Davidson County.Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing is a prestigious organization that recognizes excellence in nursing practice, education, and research. ![]() Craig Fletcher, William Graham, Daren Arrington, Vendell Brooks and Darryl Leflore were welcomed into Tau Epsilon Sigma Chapter. It was during this meeting that the chapter received it’s first transfer members. The chapter held it’s first OFFICIAL meeting on Sunday, August 29, 2021. Brother Jamar Smith served as the chapter’s Chaplain and Parliamentarian. Maxwell became the chapter’s first recording and financial secretary. Brother Edward Rashad Beard would serve in dual roles as the chapter’s first Vice-President and Treasurer. O’Neal, Jr would serve as the chapter’s first president. They were officially The Tau Epsilon Sigma Chapter of Davidson County. On July 25, 2021, the ten brothers who began with a dream and determination received notification that their application for the chapter had been approved. On June 14, 2021, the chartering application was presented to the Southeastern Regional board. The brothers began working with Gamma Beta Sigma Chapter in Greensboro, NC and Sigma Upsilon Sigma in Whiteville, NC. It was also suggested that the brothers work closely with an active alumni chapter to learn as much as possible about the organizational structure of Alumni chapters. Rouse called an emergency meeting with these “chartering” members to discuss additional expectations and requirements for chartering a chapter. On March 3, 2021, an official proposal was made to the Regional Director, Notable Brother Dr. After much discussion and excitement, these ten brothers decided to pursue chartering a chapter in Davidson County. On February 21, 2021, this quorum of brothers met to discuss the opportunity of chartering a chapter in Davidson County. Among those brothers were: Marzettis O’Neal Sr, Thomas O’Neal, Carlos O’Neal, Edward Rashad Beard, Damien Hammie, Orlando Perry, Courtney Owens and Jamar Smith. Realizing the task of chartering a new chapter was massive, Brothers O’ Neal and Maxwell enlisted the assistance and commitment of their Sigma Brothers locally and in surrounding areas. The two considered the impact that their beloved Fraternity could have in the Davidson County community if given the opportunity. Brothers Maxwell and O’Neal began to acknowledge that Davidson County may be the ideal area to benefit from the presence of Sigma. Brother O’Neal had family living in Lexington, NC and he attended church Thomasville, NC. The two brothers began looking more closely at the Davidson County communities, including Lexington and Thomasville. ![]() ![]() There was not a Sigma presence in this county.Īfter considering what was learned, the focus of these brothers shifted from the hypothetical to trying to make this possibility a reality. After much consideration and research, Brothers O’Neal and Maxwell, inquired about Davidson County as a possibility. Brother Lewis shared with Brothers O’Neal and Maxwell, though a fantastic idea to extend the cause of Sigma, it may be detrimental to attempt to begin a new chapter in the same county (Guilford) where there was already an active Alumni Chapter. Lewis, the Southeastern Region First Vice- President. Brother Woodley advised Brothers O’Neal and Maxwell to discuss their desire and vision for this new chapter with Notable Brother Duane D. After their initial conversation, Brother O’Neal contacted Brother Kelly Woodley, the State Director for North Carolina about the possibility of chartering an alumni chapter in High Point. As educators, the two saw a definite need for strong African American male presence in the area. At the time of the conversation, there was not a Sigma Chapter in that particular city.
